This probably isn’t going to be what you’re expecting from a “Best Drugstore Makeup of 2015” post. I’m sure you’re here to see the best product in each category of makeup, but unfortunately I don’t have a best for many of them. It’s not that I didn’t try foundations, eyeshadows, mascaras, blushes, etc. I tried a lot of them, but the vast majority were so disappointing I can’t see myself labeling them as “The Best”.
So, here’s the very short list of products that performed well enough for me to include them in my Best of 2015 list:
I did a big round of eyelid primer testing back in February 2015 and this Milani Eyeshadow Primer handily beat many of the high-end brands coming in top 3 behind Tarte Clean Slate 360 12-Hour Smoothing Primer. It’s easy to apply with the fingers, sets up quickly and helps eyeshadows to blend smoothly and last all day.
Liquid eyeliner is one of the first things mature women drop from their makeup bag because crepey eyelid skin makes liquid liner very difficult to apply. Fortunately for us, NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker saves the day! I love how easy the super skinny, super sharp, stiff felt tip makes it to apply liquid liner, and even to make a little wing! It lasts all day without smudging or flaking.
My favorite silver eyeliner was discontinued this year so an epic search ensued to find a replacement! The best silver liner I found was in this trio of mechanical pencil liners. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips are really creamy so they go on without tugging and last all day, even in the waterline. I bought it for the silver but the gunmetal grey has become a favorite.
2015 was the year of “Brows on Fleek” so I tried lots of brow products from powders to gels to pencils. I liked quite a few of them but the Milani Brow Fix Kit was the one I reached for the most in 2015. It’s a great little kit that contains tweezers, a nice sharp angled brush and a sponge applicator along with a brow highlight and 2 shades of brow powder.
