Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Review + Demo

I’m working my way through the reviews on my Ulta Haul purchases, so today I’m going to review the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream. I’ve been using it almost daily since I got it, mostly as a base underneath the Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder (click for Becca Review). But for the review I needed to try it on it’s own and put it to the up-close mirror and all day wear tests!

The Basics: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream* ~ $29 for 1.18 oz.

This is a sheer to medium coverage tinted cream with an spf 30 and a radiant finish. It comes in 10 shades (I got it in 05-Natural). It contains Marine Botanicals to “increase skin hydration by 215% after one week”, and it’s made without silicone, oil, parabens, and fragrance.

The application recommendation is to apply to clean skin with fingertips, and there’s also a dual fiber brush for $28 extra. This product uses the mineral sunscreen Titanium Dioxide which does not block the longer rays of the UVA spectrum. For full spectrum protection it should be combined with another sunscreen like Zinc Oxide.

My Experience:

From a distance this Tinted Gel Cream looks okay on it’s own. It’s “radiant” finish is too shiny for my taste and the coverage is too sheer to get away with one coat. The shiny finish accentuates my pores and can look waxy. I really wanted to like this one but there were just so many things wrong with it on my skin that I really can’t recommend it.

Moisturization: I used it pretty much daily for a month and contrary to the claims, I didn’t find my skin 215% more moisturized. BUT, it wasn’t drying either! I did have some very small patches of flaky skin by the end a day of wearing it.

Coverage: One coat gives very sheer coverage that slightly evens skin tone but lets spots show through. Two coats brings it up almost to medium coverage, but still on the sheer side.

Finish: Way too “radiant” for me. I feel like it makes me look shiny almost to the point of looking “oily”. It looks waxy and accentuates my pores. It did not settle into lines & wrinkles!

Application: It glides on smoothly and feels cooling going on. Looks fine from a distance, but up close it looks smeary and it clumps up in the peach fuzz on my jawline and hairline. I tried it with fingers, with brush, with sponge, over sunscreen, on it’s own… so many ways, and got about the same results every time.

 Final Assessment:

The only way I could get the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream* to look good was to put a powder foundation on top. When I used the Becca Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation* over the Bare Minerals, it looked great (but that’s more a testament to how good the Becca powder is)!! The Becca was able to hide all the flaws caused by the Bare Minerals!
